DEI Guide for Health Educators
Introduction
The goal of this guide is to help you create an inclusive learning environment for participants of all backgrounds. While it is not possible for a guide like this to be comprehensive, the purpose of this guide is to be a thought-starter that can provide general guidelines and prompt thinking of considerations in a flexible and intentional manner when developing and implementing education.
Because the use of images in education is encouraged and because language matters, suggestions for minimizing common mistakes and oversights are included in multiple categories to avoid reinforcing negative stereotypes, misperceptions, and misconceptions. Awareness and intentionality are needed to apply this guide for your educational experiences.
As language and DEI concepts continually evolve, the information contained here will also change and evolve. This resource will be evaluated on a regular basis and changes made as needed. Suggestions and feedback are welcomed.
